LONDON - Cheshire police in northwest England confirmed on Wednesday evening that an explosion took place at Crewe railway station, Sky News reported.

Meanwhile according to BBC, two people, a man and a woman, have been injured after "a series of small explosions" near Crewe railway station, citing Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The cause of the incident is believed to be a faulty underground electrical cable, said the BBC report.

A police officer said a statement concerning the incident will be released later.
